Martin Resigns As NHL Panthers GM
To Become Canadiens Coach
The NHL Panthers have appointed former team President & GM and current Alternate Governor BILL TORREY to "head the search for the team's next" GM following the departure of JACQUES MARTIN, who resigned yesterday to become Canadiens coach. Panthers President & COO MICHAEL YORMARK said that while Martin is "under contract -- reportedly for three more years -- the Panthers won't receive compensation for his loss after the Canadiens ... requested and received permission from [Panthers Owner ALAN COHEN] about 10 days ago to speak with Martin." Torrey said that the GM search is "most important," but the team's free agents "will also be addressed" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 6/2).

NBA: The T'Wolves named Brand Affinity Technologies GM of Team & Player Services CHRIS POTENZA as Dir of Corporate Sales and KRISTIN HOUGH Corporate Sales Coordinator (T'Wolves)....The Nets promoted Senior Dir of Ticket Sales BRIAN BASLOE to VP/Ticket Sales and Senior Dir of Premium Ticket Sales BRETT FISCHER to VP/Suite Sales (Nets).

EXECS: The USOC named MIKE ENGLISH Chief of Sport Performance, DESIREE FILIPPONE Dir of Government Relations and JOHN MCWILLIAMS Chief Human Resources Officer. English and McWilliams will be based at the USOC's Colorado Springs HQs, while Filippone will be based in DC. English previously worked for Quantum Corporation for 19 years, Filippone has more than 14 years of experience in government relations and public policy, including serving in the Office of Management & Budget under former PRESIDENT CLINTON, and McWilliams joins the USOC with more than 20 years of leadership experience in business development, HR and employee relations (USOC)....Just Marketing named MARY SHEN, JOSH TARBLE and DAN KOMAKECH as Account Coordinators in the Client Services Department (Just Marketing)....Campbell Soup Company elected WILLIAM PEREZ to its BOD, effective immediately. Previously, Perez was CEO of Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company and President & CEO of Nike (Campbell Soup)….RODOLFO MARTINEZ was promoted to VP/Production for ESPN Int'l and ESPN Deportes. Martinez will be responsible for the production of ESPN's networks outside the U.S. (ESPN)….Callaway Golf Canada named PREBEN GANZHORN Dir of Marketing, replacing CHRIS WALLING who resigned in April. Most recently, Ganzhorn was Dir of Marketing for Carlsberg Group Canada (Callaway)....The FIFA Exec Committee has re-elected CONCACAF President JACK WARNER and General Secretary CHUCK BLAZER to the same positions (AP, 6/1)....The Southern Conference has extended Commissioner JOHN IAMARINO's contract through '12. Iamarino has been Commissioner since January '06 (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 6/2).
