JERRY KAVANAGH has left as N.Y. Bureau Chief for SportsBusiness Journal. Kavanagh held a number of positions within Street & Smith’s Sports Group over the years, working on the sports annuals and other publications before becoming N.Y. Bureau Chief when SBJ was launched in '98. Kavanagh authored many of the “Back Page” personal features that ran in both SBJ and THE DAILY, including “One-on-One,” “What I Like,” and “In The Office.” Kavanagh intends to focus on freelancing and media consulting. Kavanagh: “I have been blessed to have had a job I looked forward to every day for 30 years: for 19 years as Editor-in-Chief of the Street & Smith's annuals, NBA and NFL Playbooks, and custom publishing department, and for the last 11 as SportsBusiness Journal New York Bureau Chief. UFC Hires Bryan Johnston As CMO
STEPPING INTO THE RING: SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Jon Show reports the UFC has hired Burton Snowboards Senior VP/Global Marketing BRYAN JOHNSTON as CMO, where he will oversee marketing activities "with an eye toward further global expansion of merchandise deals." Johnston will report to UFC President DANA WHITE and Chair & CEO LORENZO FERTITTA, and will "oversee the global marketing strategy for UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting." Johnston will relocate from N.Y. to Nevada (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/1 issue).

EXECS: Universal Sports Dir of Marketing T.K. GORE, who started with WCSN, has left his position to join Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Starting today, Gore will spearhead the CSN Chicago's digital efforts and work closely with their partners -- the Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox (Tripp Mickle, SportsBusiness Journal)....Vans America has named KEVIN BAILEY President. Bailey, who "previously ran the retail division" at Vans Inc., "fills a bit of a void left" by STEVE MURRAY, who was promoted to Action Sports Coalition President. Murray now is in charge of Vans and Reef Inc. (OCBJ.com, 5/29)....FINA President MUSTAPHA LARFAOUI has "decided not to run for another term, scuttling the expected showdown with" FINA Treasurer JULIO MAGLIONE. Larfaoui also will resign from the IOC before the October vote on the host city for the '16 Games. Maglione is "expected to run unopposed" for FINA President in July (AROUNDTHERINGS.com, 5/30)....The Rams have hired Lambert-St. Louis Int'l Airport police officer STEVE MILLER as Head of Security, replacing DAN LINZA. Also, Rams photographer BILL STOVER has "been dismissed" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 5/30)....White Sox Senior Dir of Park Operations DAVID SCHAFFER has retired from the club, effective today. As a result, the White Sox will promote TROY BROWN to Senior Dir of Event Operations, while GREG HOPWOOD will assume the role of Senior Dir of Stadium Operations. Additionally, JULIE TAYLOR will become Senior Dir of Guest Services & Diamond Suites (White Sox)....Turnstile Publishing Co., the publisher of Golfweek magazine, has named Golfweek Editor JEFF BABINEAU VP. Babineau will maintain his post at Golfweek (Turnstile)....Cole Real Estate Investments has hired Genworth Financial VP/Sports & Entertainment SCOTT SCHERER to the same position (Cole).
