In Detroit, Christina Rogers reports the NHL has "come out swinging against a longtime adversary -- the bootleg merchandiser" -- ahead of the Penguins-Red Wings Stanley Cup Finals. The league is "warning fans about the proliferation of knock-off memorabilia sold on the Internet and by unauthorized vendors" near arenas. NHL officials said that "counterfeit products are often of substandard quality and illegally imported." NHL Enterprises Group VP/Legal & Business Affairs Tom Prochnow said that the league during the '08 Red Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup Finals seized more than $250,000 in counterfeit merchandise (DETROIT NEWS, 5/29).

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS: In N.Y., John Martin wrote the French Tennis Federation has "fallen prey" to the "outside influence of English" at the French Open. The theme of this year's event, which is "emblazoned across ... billboards and kiosks" at Roland Garros, is "So French, So Roland Garros." Martin: "How the 'so generation' made its way to Roland Garros is a mystery best left unexplored, perhaps. At any rate, it's here! The barbarians have penetrated all the way to the edge of Center Court" (NYTIMES.com, 5/28).

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE: The Charlotte Metro Credit Union has won a Telly award for a commercial starring former Bobcats coach Sam Vincent and F Jared Dudley. The spot features Vincent "guiding Dudley through online banking, free checking and other hoops during a game" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/28).
