SETTING THE PACE: NBC's 6.8 final rating for the race portion of last Saturday's Preakness Stakes from 5:56-6:50pm ET was the highest since a 7.7 in '04. The broadcast drew 10.9 million viewers, up 38% from 7.9 million viewers last year (NBC)....Speed's 3.8 cable rating for last Saturday's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is down slightly from the 3.9 rating the network earned last year. In its press release, the network went with the headline "Speed Bucks Ratings Trend," and notes it was down "just" 2% (THE DAILY).
MY KIND OF TOWN: CSN Chicago from April 1 through May 17 drew a total viewing audience of almost 8.2 million HHs for 69 live professional sports telecasts, a viewership record for any six-week time period in the net's history. The 69 telecasts included five regular-season and 10 postseason Blackhawks games, three regular-season and six postseason Bulls games, 20 regular-season and one Spring Training Cubs games and 23 regular-season and one Spring Training White Sox games (CSN).

Rangers Continue To See Spike

NOTES: The MLB Rangers "continue to see a spike in their TV ratings," as the team averaged a 3.5 local rating for last weekend's Angels-Rangers series across two FS Southwest telecasts and another on KDFW-Fox. FS Southwest is averaging a 2.3 local rating for Rangers broadcasts this season, up 123% over last year (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/22)....ESPN earned a 4.6 local rating for Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery in Oklahoma City, "about four times an average Thunder telecast." The Thunder drew the No. 3 pick (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 5/22).
