KSU Seeking To Nullify $3.2M In
Payments To Former Coach Ron Prince
Kansas State Univ. (KSU) yesterday filed suit in Riley County (KS) District Court, seeking to nullify $3.2M in payments to former football coach RON PRINCE. KSU claims that Prince's reps "negotiated directly" with former KSU AD BOB KRAUSE, and not university lawyers, when he signed a contract extension last August. KSU claims that Krause, who resigned as AD in January, "acted alone on the agreement with Prince," and contends that the deal "should be nullified because of a breach of ethics" (K.C. STAR, 5/21).

SKATING WITH THE STARS? Sharks C JEREMY ROENICK said ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” has “been an option for me.” Roenick: “I’ve actually been asked to go down there and do a dress rehearsal sort of deal.” NHL Network’s Rob Simpson asked, “Do you get to wear sequins?” Roenick: “No, that’s just total leotard.” Roenick said of his dancing skills, “I can shake it, you know” (“NHL Live!,” NHL Network, 5/20). Meanwhile, "DWTS" winners SHAWN JOHNSON and MARK BALLAS appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night. Kimmel noted five out of the eight seasons "have been won by athletes or former athletes. Do you feel like you guys have an unfair advantage over the celebrities you're competing against?” Ballas: “I wouldn't say that.” Kimmel: “Of course you wouldn't say that. You got to win twice because of it. You had KRISTI YAMAGUCHI also, Mark? You lucky bastard!” ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," ABC, 5/20).

FALSE ALARM: Steelers QB BEN ROETHLISBERGER yesterday said that "he does not use" social networking sites, including a Facebook account under his name that "proclaimed he had skin cancer." Roethlisberger: "There's no truth to it. i don't have any of that stuff." Roethlisberger said that his reps have "been working on removing such posts as this one that proclaimed he was sick" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/21).

CHARITY STRIPE: Braves P TIM HUDSON and his wife, KIM, have launched the Hudson Family Foundation, which will support children throughout Georgia and Alabama (Braves)....Colts QB PEYTON MANNING Tuesday night visited children at the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island, passing out some Nerf footballs and autographed pictures. Manning is a Nerf ambassador (THE DAILY)....Buccaneers C JEFF FAINE Saturday night hosted the Fashion for a Cause show in downtown Orlando. Proceeds from the event, which drew an estimated 400 guests, will benefit the Children's Home Society of Florida (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 5/17).

NAMES: The American Council of Engineering Cos. has recognized Lucas Oil Stadium as "one of the top eight engineering achievements of last year," presenting its Grand Award to the stadium for "originality and technical, social and economic value." Lucas Oil "was up against 168 projects from throughout the world" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/21)....Mavericks Owner MARK CUBAN and Fs DIRK NOWITZKI and BRANDON BASS Saturday hung out together at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
