Wheels & Deals: Pennzoil Recognizes Importance Of Sponsorships

Pennzoil Watching NASCAR Viewership,
Attendance Figures Very Closely
NASCAR SCENE's Bob Pockrass noted Pennzoil "still sees important benefits" in its sponsorships of NASCAR teams. Marketing is "always important," but Pennzoil Dir of Marketing Troy Chapman "knows that in these economic times, people are keeping their cars longer." Chapman: "Viewership figures we watch very closely; attendance figures we watch very closely. The thing that really at the end of the day matters the most to us beyond all of that is how good a job we're doing activating. What are we doing, beyond just having the logo on the car? (Are we) bringing it out to the fan, where they're shopping and where they're getting their oil changed?" (SCENEDAILY.com, 5/19).

LADY LUCK: In Indianapolis, Steve Ballard writes IRL team owner/driver Sarah Fisher's "luck turned when Dollar General came on board for two races last year and then committed to sponsor Fisher in six this year, with a possibility of more." Dollar General Chair & CEO Rick Dreiling: "When we watched her last year go through what she did at Indianapolis, we knew she was a perfect fit for (us). She's incredibly hard-working and incredibly dedicated to her sport." Ballard notes Fisher yesterday "added another sponsor" with Indianapolis-based consumer-review service Angie's List (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/20).

NOTES: Wisconsin-based Husar's House of Fine Diamonds has signed on as the title sponsor of the IRL Firestone Indy Lights event at Milwaukee Mile on May 31. The event will now be called the Husar's House of Fine Diamonds 100 Firestone Indy Lights (Milwaukee Mile)....Cable and satellite TV channel The World Network will serve as the primary sponsor of Marc Davis Motorsports' (MDM) No. 36 Toyota driven by Marc Davis in the NASCAR Nationwide Series CarQuest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday (MDM).
