Angels & Airwaves: MLB Team Signs Deal With JetBlue Airways
By Eric Fisher, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
JetBlue Airways has struck a sponsorship deal with the Angels, marking the airline’s third MLB pact following similar deals with the Dodgers and Red Sox. The deal is for the rest of ‘09 with options for ’10 and ’11. Components to the agreement will include fixed and scoreboard signage at Angels Stadium, hospitality and airfare discounts for Angels Fan Club members, among other elements. The pair will launch the effort tomorrow with a promotional event at the ballpark in which the first 361 fans to show up dressed in Angels gear and providing a book donation to the Angels Home Run Readers Summer Library Program will receive a free round-trip flight on JetBlue. The 361 number denotes the number of Angels hits so far this season through last night’s game. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal does not include online activations. Among the L.A.-area airports, promotion of the Angels alliance will primarily be at Long Beach Airport, while the Dodgers partnership will be more focused to Los Angeles Int’l Airport and Bob Hope Burbank Airport. JetBlue does not operate at John Wayne Orange County Int’l, the airport closest to Angels Stadium. “This really solidifies our total investment and commitment to the entire Los Angeles region,” said Lisa Borromeo, JetBlue Marketing Manager. “We’re really the official airline of Los Angeles baseball in general now.”
