Rogers Reaches Distribution Deal For TSN2 In Time For Jays-Sox

TSN2 Will Be Available To Rogers Subscribers
In Time For Jays-Sox Series Beginning Today
TSN and Rogers Cable Sunday confirmed that they have come to an agreement on distribution for TSN2. TSN2 beginning today will be available to Rogers subscribers on a free preview on Rogers Digital Channel 1, and at the end of the month, the network will be available to Rogers Digital VIP cable subscribers at its permanent location, channel 98 (CTV). In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich noted TSN2 will exclusively broadcast five Blue Jays games this season, beginning with the three-game Blue Jays-Red Sox series that begins today. TSN and Rogers "finally decided to play nice after nine months of acrimony, meaning all Rogers subscribers with digital boxes" will get TSN2 for the series, and "even the digitally deprived can watch the three-game series." After the Red Sox series concludes, digital customers will continue to receive the net "free for three months," after which they will "have to fork over $60 a month to get TSN2 and a whole slew of other channels and features ... unless they have the Rogers VIP package." Zelkovich wrote it was "all about the big picture as Rogers and TSN parent CTV negotiated new deals on the network's entire stable of channels." The agreement "wasn't about the [C$0.30] a month that TSN wanted Rogers customers to pay" for TSN2, rather it was "about the tens of millions of dollars tied up in channels under the CTV umbrella" (TORONTO STAR, 5/18).
