People & Personalities: Hanifan Replaced By Farr As Rams Analyst

Hanifan Will Appear On Rams'
Pregame, Postgame Shows
In St. Louis, Dan Caesar reports Rams radio analyst Jim Hanifan is being replaced by Rams analyst and WXOS-FM host D'Marco Farr. Hanifan will "appear on the pregame and postgame shows this season but Farr will be the analyst alongside play-by-play broadcaster Steve Savard." Farr "has been a member of the Rams' radio crew since 2006, six seasons after his playing days, ... and was worked in more and more as the No. 3 man in the booth as last season progressed." WXOS Program Dir Jason Barrett: "The thing people love about 'Hanny' is his ability to tell stories and give insight, and he'll get more opportunities to do that in his new role." Hanifan said, "I'm not going to worry about it. ... I'll do that little (pre- and postgame) gig and see what happens." Caesar writes Hanifan, who replaced late Rams radio analyst Jack Snow in the role late in the '05 season, "brought a coarse, no-nonsense approach" to the job (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 5/8).

ROLE PLAYER: In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley writes newly hired ESPN football analyst Matt Millen will "do just fine" in that role, "for a few reasons." Wolfley: "The first reason is, Millen is a really talented broadcaster. Terrifically talented. ... Another reason Millen will do all right is that he's working at ESPN, where the inventory of games and platforms for analysis are so vast and varied, he'll be -- as scouts are fond of saying -- just another guy. He'll be part of a cast of thousands, not part of a cast of five" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/8).

GET WELL SOON: NESN Exec Producer & Exec VP/Programming Joel Feld said the "outpouring of support" for NESN Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy, who has taken a leave of absence in order to recover from the effects of recent cancer surgery, "has been overwhelming." In Boston, Chad Finn writes, "No matter how long his absence, Remy -- with his dry wit, local ties, and knack for informing viewers not only why but when things will happen -- will undoubtedly be missed on NESN" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/8). In K.C., Bill Reiter reports Royals TV analyst Paul Splittorff has been "sidelined since opening day because of an infection that has robbed him of his announcer's voice." Splittorff is hoping to return to the role "around June 1" (K.C. STAR, 5/8).

NOTES: On Long Island, Neil Best reported Fox will add former NFLer John Lynch "to its game analyst stable" (NEWSDAY.com, 5/7)....Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger is "leaving her post to pursue a career as an actress" (N.Y. POST, 5/8)....Portland Oregonian sports writer Ryan White, who has been at the paper since '97, will begin writing for the How We Live section, in additon to writing for the paper's The Edge section "four days a week, and online writing The Edge blog" (Portland OREGONIAN, 5/6).
