Breeders' Cup Reduces '09 Ticket Prices, Launches Online Process

The Breeders' Cup has announced changes to their ticket sales program, including the move to an online ticket seat selection and purchase system for the '09 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park on November 6-7. The event also has reduced ticket prices across the board and will offer single and two-day ticket options throughout the facility. Fans will be able to get a seat on Friday for as little as $40 and a seat on Saturday for as little as $55. Last year, tickets could only be purchased for both days and started at $200. Single day prices for premium seating this year will be reduced by 30%. The Breeders' Cup also will provide online travel support for fans coming to the event from outside of Southern California through its new partnership with Travelocity (Breeders' Cup). Breeders' Cup CMO Peter Land: "It's all about giving the people a choice. It's just the way the world is going, people just want more choices in everything they do." In L.A., Art Wilson notes last year's Breeders' Cup "drew more than 82,000 for the two days, including 31,257 on Friday and 51,331 on Saturday." Land said that while Breeders' Cup officials are "close, the cost for general admission has not been set yet." But he "promised it will be a significant reduction and will be announced in the next two or three weeks." Wilson writes the changes are "positive steps that should be applauded and hopefully will lead to a two-day crowd of more than 100,000" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 5/8).
