The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Russell Adams cited sources as saying that Golf World Publisher TOM NOLAN is leaving the publication to become Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. Senior VP/Golf & Tennis. While the magazine industry "suffered a nearly 12% decline" in ad pages in '08, Golf World posted an increase of more than 4%. Golf World ad pages were flat for Q1 '09, while the industry "suffered a 26% decline." Nolan in his new role will be responsible for "overseeing strategic growth and development of Polo's golf and tennis business." Adams noted Polo sponsors PGA Tour and LPGA players including DAVIS LOVE III and MORGAN PRESSEL (WSJ.com, 5/6).

CSG Names Grilly Exec VP &
Chief Digital Officer
EXECS: Sky Sports Managing Dir VIC WAKELING will retire at the end of June. Sky Sports Exec Producer BARNEY FRANCIS will replace Wakeling, reporting to BSkyB CEO JEREMY DARROCH (DAILY VARIETY, 5/7)....The CFL Toronto Argonauts yesterday officially named BOB NICHOLSON President & CEO. Nicholson then named former CEO MIKE CLEMONS Vice Chair & Special Adviser to the President (CP, 5/6)....Comcast Sports Group (CSG) named Philly.com President ERIC GRILLY Exec VP & Chief Digital Officer. Grilly will be responsible for the digital operations of CSG's 12 regional sports, news and entertainment networks (CSG)....Maroon PR will create two separate divisions, one to handle sports and entertainment clients and the other to focus on non-sports clients, and Maroon VP TIM RICHARDSON has been promoted to Exec VP, and will oversee the Sports & Entertainment division (Maroon)....SMI has named Cabarrus County (NC) Convention and Visitors Bureau President & CEO DESALES WAGSTER to the newly-created position of VP/Strategic Alliances, effective May 18 (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 5/6)....Billy Casper Golf (BCG) has promoted TONY CIANCI, JERED WIELAND and BRIAN O'HARE to VP/Operations for oversight of BCG regional staff and expanded corporate responsibility in marketing, agronomy, client relationships and portfolio growth (BCG).
