Red Sox Analyst Jerry Remy Takes Leave To Recover From Surgery

Jerry Remy Underwent Surgery
For Lung Cancer Last Year |
NESN Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy has taken a leave of absence, effective immediately, for an indefinite period of time in order to recover from the effects of recent cancer surgery. Remy, a former smoker, underwent surgery for lung cancer last year. NESN Red Sox studio analyst Dennis Eckersley will fill Remy's spot in the booth for the remainder of the team's homestand, which concludes tomorrow, and studio analyst Dave Roberts will provide color commentary for the Red Sox' subsequent road trip through May 17. NESN has yet to make a decision on who will replace Remy as play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo's partner beyond that date (NESN). In Boston, John Tomase notes Remy missed a portion of Spring Training and six regular-season games this year with pneumonia (BOSTON HERALD, 5/7).
