Minor League Baseball Sees Less Than 1% Attendance Drop In April

Minor League Baseball (MiLB) posted an average attendance of 3,720 per game across the affiliated minors during the month of April, 0.7% below the same mark for April '08. Despite a later-than-usual start to this season, MiLB surpassed 5 million in total April attendance for the ninth-straight year with a total of 5.26 million for 1,414 games. Total April attendance last year was 6.67 million for 1,780 games. Six of the 11 full-season leagues this year showed year-over-year attendance growth, led by a 23.1% spike in the Class A Florida State League. "While our overall attendance is below a year ago, we are encouraged that the opening-for-opening attendance is off only a fraction of one percentage point," said MiLB President Pat O'Conner.
