FS Ohio Posts Ratings, Viewership Gains For Cavs Telecasts

Cavaliers Ratings On FS Ohio Up 116%
This Season From Last Season
Cavaliers ratings on FS Ohio this season are up 116% from last season, with the postgame show "up by a similar margin," and the net during the regular season averaged "more than 300,000 viewers" for Cavaliers broadcasts, according to George Thomas of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. The RSN "took a huge gamble three years ago when they ripped up the remaining three years on their contract and doubled the rights fees it paid to the Cavs," but "given the Cavs' stature not just in the NBA, but also globally because of LeBron James and the team's winning ways, that's looking like a bargain." FS Ohio also is "enhancing its broadcasts and bonding with the Cavs' fan base in the process," as fans can "send texts, or hit them up on Twitter or Facebook." FS Ohio Producer Tom Farmer: "It was something to create interactivity with our fans and with our viewers and allow them to post their comments on the postgame show. It's something that's definitely taken off." But Farmer added, "You don't want to get too crazy." Farmer: "You don't want to lose sight of the fact Austin (Carr) is a Cavaliers broadcaster. ... You want to maintain the integrity of the game" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 5/1).

STAYING WITH THE CREW: In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley reports the Brewers and FS Wisconsin have "agreed to extend their television rights deal," though financial terms of the deal and the length of the extension were not disclosed. The news of the agreement was "somewhat surprising because the previous deal between [the] Brewers and FS Wisconsin, struck in 2003, was through 2012," but the "pattern among clubs and their local television partners has been to craft extensions well before the sunset of the previous deals." Wolfley notes the net will "continue to produce a minimum of 150 Brewers games per season" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/1).
