NASCAR Nationwide Series Viewership Off 12.6% From Last Year

The NASCAR Nationwide Series is averaging 2.256 million viewers for its first seven telecasts across ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 this season, down 12.6% from 2.581 million viewers through the first six races last season. Last year's Auto Club Speedway race, which was orginally scheduled for a Saturday, was held on a Monday due to rain. When including that Monday telecast, the '09 season is down 6.0% from the first seven telecasts last season. This season also saw Atlanta Motor Speedway removed from the beginning of the schedule. The telecasts from Daytona and Las Vegas saw year-over-year viewership gains from '08, while the races from Bristol and Texas saw drops. The chart below compares viewership for the first seven races of the '09 NASCAR Nationwide Series with the first seven races from last season (THE DAILY).
