Jed York Discusses 49ers Ongoing Efforts To Build A New Stadium

York Says 49ers Have Discussed
Sharing A Stadium With Raiders
49ers President Jed York last night appeared on CSN Bay Area's "Chronicle Live" to discuss his team's prospects for a new stadium, including a possible shared facility with the Raiders. York said the Raiders are "going through the same process that we are: evaluating sites, looking at a stadium." York added, "We've discussed things at every level if it made sense for us to look at sharing a building. If that opportunity arises, we’ll certainly continue a discussion, but right now there’s not been a lot of detail.” The 49ers and Santa Clara reportedly are close to finalizing a stadium agreement, but the San Jose Mercury News' Tim Kawakami believes the team is a "long, long way from that." Kawakami: "Maybe in two or three years we’ll know for sure, but in this economy, they’re going to go to a city or municipality and say, ‘We want you to put up $135(M)?’ It’s a tough way to go." The S.F. Chronicle's Tom FitzGerald added, "There's a lot to be done before they get to that point, but it's clear that they want to get out of San Francisco. They don't like Candlestick Park." FitzGerald said even if the Santa Clara plan is presented to voters, the 49ers "still have to get a big loan from the NFL, and we thought that the NFL loan for stadiums had dried up." Kawakami noted the team has "to win to get momentum, to get good feeling about the ownership again, which they do not have. ... If they can win pretty quickly, as in this year, maybe the tide changes a little for the stadium" ("Chronicle Live," CSN Bay Area, 4/29).
