Store Owner Says Blackhawks Sales
Up About 300% From A Month Ago |
As the Blackhawks and Bulls "fight to make it through the playoffs, sports retailers are battling to keep their shelves stocked with the teams' merchandise," according to Kim Mikus of the Illinois DAILY HERALD. Illinois-based sporting goods retailer Sports Fanatic Owner Ray Laning said that sales are "up about 300[%] from a month ago" at stores in West Dundee and Palatine, Illinois. Laning said Blackhawks jerseys are "selling like crazy." Laning: "There are more Blackhawk fans than Bulls fans in the suburbs." Laning "recently sold out of his red Hawks jerseys that range in price from $115 to $165," and he is "expecting another shipment at any time." Laning said that Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane and C Jonathan Toews "rank on top when it comes to the hottest players," followed by LW Patrick Sharp and RW Martin Havlat. Chicago-area MC Sports stores also are "finding Hawks merchandise going through the roof," as many of the company's area locations have "only jerseys without a player's name left on the racks." Alex Zajac, who owns the Gadjets Galore location in Arlington Heights, Illinois, also said the Blackhawks are the "most popular right now." Meanwhile, Mikus notes sporting retailers are "finding that Cubs and White Sox merchandise has been strong since the season started" (Illinois DAILY HERALD, 4/30).
