The Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) last night awarded the Horrigan Award, given annually to the person who "helped the media best do their job," to Steelers Chair DAN ROONEY. Also, the Cardinals won the Rozelle Award as the league's top PR department, while Sports Illustrated's PETER KING won the McCann Award, given to a PFWA member who has "provided long and distinguished service to the profession." Additionally, Cardinals QB KURT WARNER won the PFWA's Good Guy Award, while Buccaneers K Matt Bryant won the Halas Award (AP, 4/27).

SOLE PATROL: In N.Y., James Covert cites sources as saying that Foot Locker Chair & CEO MATT SERRA, whose contract expires in January, is "gearing up for retirement." Sources said that the Foot Locker BOD has hired exec-search firm Spencer Stuart to find a new CEO. The company already has "interviewed external candidates," though sources indicated that a Foot Locker "insider may be tapped." Foot Locker officials did not comment (N.Y. POST, 4/28).
