Tiger Woods Wants AT&T National To Stay At Congressional

Woods Will Play In This Year's
AT&T National At Congressional
The Tiger Woods Foundation (TWF) has an agreement to host Woods' PGA Tour AT&T National at Congressional CC from '12-14, and Woods yesterday said that he "would like to come back beyond that," according to Barry Svrluga of the WASHINGTON POST. Woods, at a press conference to promote this year's tournament, said, "We want to come back and play here as long as Congressional wants us." The tournament will relocate to Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia for '10-11 as Congressional prepares to host the '11 U.S. Open. Congressional members, who last year agreed to bring the AT&T National back in '12, own a three-year option to extend the event's deal through '17. Congressional President Tim Sullivan said that he "would expect the membership to invite Woods back beyond the existing agreement." Meanwhile, Woods and TWF President Greg McLaughlin yesterday also said that the foundation is "getting closer to picking a spot" in DC for a branch of the Tiger Woods Learning Center (WASHINGTON POST, 4/21). In DC, Barker Davis notes the AT&T National once again will donate 30,000 tickets to the event to retired and active military personnel. Last year's tournament raised $2M for charity (WASHINGTON TIMES, 4/21).

ON THE 18TH HOLE? Golfer Jim Furyk and Exelon are in the final year of their contract to host the Exelon Invitational at The ACE Club outside Philadelphia, and Furyk said he is "riding the fence" about the future of the tournament. Furyk: "Economically, a lot of things need to happen. Our sponsors have been here; we've had great relationships. ... We'll have to see how they feel about it." Furyk added, "I'm worried about the economy, and golf in general right now. We're losing a lot of sponsors on tour. That's what really scares me. We need to figure out (how to proceed)" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 4/21).
