Average Ticket Price For Bills Toronto Series Game Reduced By 17%

More Than 11,000 Tickets Will Be
Available For Less Than $100
Bills Toronto Series organizers yesterday announced that they have reduced by 17% the average ticket price for the '09 regular-season game at Rogers Centre. The drop is largely due to an increase in the number of tickets available for less than $100 -- from 4,700 in '08 to more than 11,000 in '09. The Bills' opponent for the game and the ticket on-sale date will be announced tonight (Bills). Bills Toronto Series GM Adrian Montgomery said that the decision was "made partly because of fan feedback and partly because of the economy." Montgomery: "We made the decision because fans were concerned about accessibility of tickets at a certain price point. The decision is underscored by the uncertain economic times we are in." Montgomery said that fans who "paid in advance for VIP packages would be compensated with a choice of credits or with cash refunds." He "stressed that the difficulty in selling tickets last year was not a factor." Montgomery: We sold more than 90[%] of our club packages, we sold all of our suites, so demand is there." In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich notes under the new price structure, tickets "range from $99 in the 500 level -- an increase from last year's $75 -- to $275 for sideline seats." VIP seats were "reduced from $575 to $495" (TORONTO STAR, 4/14).

BETTER IN BUFFALO? In Toronto, Terry Koshan notes it "remains much cheaper to get tickets for Bills games at Ralph Wilson Stadium," where the average price of $51 is the "lowest in the league" (TORONTO SUN, 4/14). The GLOBE & MAIL's Stephen Brunt writes, "Yes, it's still cheaper to watch the Bills in Buffalo, and those who enjoy the trip to Ralph Wilson Stadium, the superior atmosphere and unfettered potential for outdoor consumption of alcohol, will no doubt still happily make the trip to Orchard Park. But factor in currency exchange and border wait times and the price of gas ... and the value gap has at least closed a bit." The "simple gesture of admitting they got it wrong the first time around will go some way toward erasing the feeling that this was all about playing fans for suckers" (GLOBE & MAIL, 4/14).
