PepsiCo Replaces Coca-Cola As Delaware North Official Provider

Delaware North (DN) has reached a multi-year deal making PepsiCo the official provider of fountain drinks and packaged food and beverage products for its U.S. operations. Pepsi replaces Coca-Cola, which had been DN's beverage supplier for the past 94 years. The partnership applies to over 200 sports, travel and entertainment locations in the U.S. where DN provides concessions (DN). DN VP/Supply Management Michael Reinert said that a "number of factors influenced the decision to switch from Coke to Pepsi, including the beverage vendors' pricing, service, marketing capabilities, commitment to environmental sustainability and brand portfolio." Reinert: "Pricing over the entire term of the contract is important, especially when you consider the inflationary pressure experienced in the last year." Reinert added, "It was a very difficult and complex decision because of all its moving parts and pieces. And ultimately it does impact our guests and clients." In Buffalo, Samantha Maziarz Christmann reports the transition from Coca-Cola to Pepsi products at DN facilities "began the third week of March and is expected to be completed by summer's end." The deal "will not affect Delaware North's more than 40 Sportservice sporting venue locations, which have private contracts with its beverage companies," including HSBC Arena and TD Banknorth Garden (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/10). BUSINESS FIRST OF BUFFALO's James Fink reported HSBC Arena last summer "signed a long-term deal with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Buffalo to provide all soft drinks and non-alcoholic beverages." DN spokesperson Glen White: "In the case where those exclusive agreements exist, we will honor those" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/9).
