Phillies Merchandise, Tix Sales Booming In Wake Of Championship

On the strength of the Phillies' World Series Championship, the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Citizens Bank Park has seen a 287% increase in sales from November through February, compared to the year-ago period, according to Marcus Hayes of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Phillies Dir of Merchandising Scott Brandreth could not provide "inclusive totals," but he indicated that the "top-selling single item over the past 4 months" has been "The Perfect Season: The 2008 Phillies Video Yearbook." The Majestic Store has sold 3,000 copies of the $19.95 DVD, and "more than 50,000, total, have been sold." Hayes notes purchases around Christmas "provided a predictable peak" for both merchandise and tickets, and the Phillies have "sold more than 24,200 season tickets." That total is "already more than the 2004 record of just below 24,000, set when Citizens Bank Park opened with fanfare and free agents." The total also is "more than a 17[%] increase over last season." The team already has sold 2.6 million total tickets, which "could spell doom for the single-season total attendance record of 3.422 million," which was set last year (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 3/31).
