MLB Net Unveils First Eight "Thursday Night Baseball" Broadcasts

MLB Network yesterday announced this season's "Thursday Night Baseball" schedule for April and May, which will feature 16 different teams in the first eight games. The schedule includes the net's first-ever live regular-season game with Brewers-Giants on April 9. The April 16 Indians-Yankees game, the first regular-season game at new Yankee Stadium, will mark Bob Costas' play-by-play debut for MLB Net. Costas will be joined by analysts Harold Reynolds and Jim Kaat (MLB Network).

DIVERSE OFFERING: AWFUL ANNOUNCING’s Brian Powell writes, “Pretty good collection of games there, and it's good that MLB Network doesn't feel the need to rely on the Yankees and Red Sox every single week. … Having a variety like this will appeal to general fans as well as fantasy players” (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 3/25).

FREE SHOWING: MLB.com today is conducting a free public beta preview of its new MLB.tv player for the Yankees-Phillies Spring Training game. The video player, built in conjunction through MLBAM's new partnership with Adobe, features higher resolution and DVR-type functionality (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal).
