NFL Franchise Notes: Stallworth One Of Four Minority Owners

Pro Football HOFer Stallworth
Has Become Steelers Investor
In Pittsburgh, Ed Bouchette notes with Pro Football HOFer John Stallworth becoming a Steelers investor, the team will "become one of only three teams to have a minority owner." The league's other minority owners are Jaguars investor Deron Cherry and Texans investors Javier Loya and Kirbyjon Caldwell(PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 3/25). Steelers President Art Rooney II said Stallworth's interest in a portion of the team "was one of those conversations that just kind of came up as time went on and we were talking about where we were going with things." Rooney: "He expressed that he might have an interest and just went from there." In Pittsburgh, Brown & Prisuta note the extent of Stallworth's involvement "is unknown," and the Steelers "arcommenting regarding Stallworth's stake in the franchise or what it cost him" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 3/25).

MOVING ON UP? In Buffalo, Bob DiCesare notes within two days of the Bills signing WR Terrell Owens, the team "received some 10,000 season-ticket renewals," as the signing "struck a harmonious chord with fans." But now, "given the tremors emanating from Toronto, and the franchise's alarming response to the aftershocks, it's truly time to wonder: Are we being played for suckers?" DiCesare writes one Bills regular-season game in Toronto per year was "defensible given the league's economics." DiCesare: "But two? Which leads to three? Which ends in 'Sayonara Buffalo, nice to have known you.' Is that your desired legacy, Mr. Wilson, sir?" DiCesare notes Bills Owner Ralph Wilson has often said that the team "would never move under [his] ownership." DiCesare: "I guess we failed to ask the pertinent follow-up question: Do you mean all at once, or one piece at a time?" (BUFFALO NEWS, 3/25).

STANDARD STRIPES: In Jacksonville, Vito Stellino notes a report on the Jaguars' team Web site indicated that the team "plans to do some tweaking of its uniforms this season." Owner Wayne Weaver "wants to standardize the uniform design because he  believes the team was using too many combinations," which resulted in the team "losing identity to fans" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 3/25).
