In N.Y., Phil Mushnick wrote it is possible the "most disgraceful, greed-based story in NFL history is playing out while the sports media respond with typical silence" and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell "performs a dead-on imitation" of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. Goodell claimed Giants and Jets PSLs "are good investments." But the Jets' PSL auction "prospectus tells a different story: 'Licensee represents, warrants and agrees that it is acquiring its license hereunder for its own use and not as an investment or with a view to the distribution or relicense thereof or of tickets to others, and has no expectation of profit.'" Families that "have done everything the Giants have demanded since the early 1950s ... have been cast out, mere disposables" (N.Y. POST, 3/15).

Top Minority Companies Hired For Cowboys
Stadium Disappointed In Volume Of Work
MINORITY MATTERS: In Ft. Worth, Andrea Ahles reported the top minority companies hired as management partners for the Cowboys new $1.1B stadium said that they are "disappointed in the volume of work they have handled" for the project. Texas-based Rayco Construction and Dallas-based 3i Construction "combined received $2.3[M], about 1[%] of the $200[M] paid to minority- and women-owned firms on the project." They said that they had "hoped the agreement would lead to more of the physical work on the site, and it did not." Officials said that with over $200M paid to minority- and women-owned firms, the Cowboys stadium project "appears to have met most of its minority hiring and contracting goals" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/15).

NOTES: In N.Y., Douglas McIntyre noted MLS Seattle Sounders FC increased capacity for their home opener at Qwest Field on Thursday, but did not “make all of Qwest’s 67,000 seats available.” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said the stadium would be “downsized as well" for MLS Cup. Garber: "It is very important to create intimacy. I’d rather walk away from a couple extra bucks and create the right environment and the right value in the marketplace” (NYTIMES.com, 3/13)....PC Sports VP and Project Manager Paula Yancey said that everything is “on schedule" for the new Louisville arena, with 10% "of the work completed.” Yancey added that the arena “can be built with the proceeds from a $238[M] bond issue” (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 3/14).
