Heluva Good To Title Sponsor Sprint Cup Race At Watkins Glen

New York-based Heluva Good "will become the title sponsor" of the August 9 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen Int'l (WGI), and WGI also will "lower ticket prices for a section of the track" during the four-day race weekend, according to Joe Mink of the ITHACA JOURNAL. Heluva Good replaces Centurion Boats as title sponsor and the race now will be called the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen. WGI President Craig Rust said that the deal is for one year and "was signed last month." Centurion in December "opted out of its third year as the track's Sprint Cup sponsor, citing economic troubles." Rust said that ISC, which owns WGI, "made the first move by contacting Heluva Good! this past fall." Rust and Heluva Good Senior VP/Operations Scott Blake would not "give a specific number as to how much Heluva Good ... is paying for the sponsorship." Rust: "All that I'll say is it is a fair sponsorship for NASCAR Sprint Cup." Meanwhile, WGI and McDonald's Friday announced that "reserved-seat admission to the McDonald's Family Grandstand for the NASCAR weekend has been reduced to $65, down from $85 from the year before." Rust and Central New York McDonald's franchise Owner Jeff Parker indicated that a new ticket for "youths ages 12 and under will be issued for the McDonald's Family Grandstand for $20, good for the four-day weekend." Rust: "We're trying to find ways to make the races more affordable for the fans." Rust and Parker would not "say if McDonald's is picking up the tab or if WGI is taking the financial hit for the price cut" (ITHACA JOURNAL, 3/14). Heluva Good also sponsors the June Nationwide race at Dover Int'l Speedway (CAPE MAY COUNTY TIMES, 3/15).
