Media Notes

In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich reported CBC Sports Exec Dir Scott Moore is serving as the interim GM of Media Sales & Marketing for the net. Moore is "expected to give up selling ads and return to sports in a year or so." Ad sales at the CBC have been "falling for some time" and since sports "supplies most of the CBC's revenue and a good chunk of its audience ... it figured a little sports thinking might not be a bad thing." Moore: "I can honestly say we will make money this fiscal (quarter) with the NHL. How that moves forward for next fiscal, anybody can guess." CBC Sports Senior Dir David Masse has temporarily replaced Moore (THESTAR.com, 3/11).

BACK INTO THE LIMELIGHT: In Baltimore, David Zurawik reported Gold Medal-winning U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps is "going to do some TV time now in an effort to rehabilitate his marijuana-tarnished image." Phelps will appear on NBC's "Today" in a taped conversation tomorrow, the "first interview since the photograph of him allegedly smoking marijuana made headlines around the world." The interview will also air on Sunday's episode of NBC's "Dateline" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 3/11).

BRICK HOUSE: U.S. Figure Skating has selected Red Brick Entertainment (RBE) as the host broadcaster for the '09 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, which will take place March 24-30 at Staples Center. RBE's selection marks the first time a non-network broadcasting group has been selected to provide programming and production support for the event. RBE will produce and distribute more than 80 hours of live coverage for broadcast and radio rights holders (RBE).
