People & Personalities: Favre Not Certain About Studio Position

Favre, Relaxing At ESPN The Weekend, Says
He Is Unsure About Taking Studio Analyst Role
Former NFLer Brett Favre was part of the ESPN the Weekend festivities in Orlando, where he was asked by the ORLANDO SENTINEL's Chris Harry whether his appearance was a step toward taking a NFL studio analyst position with the net. Favre: "I think I'd be pretty decent on TV. Would I look good in a suit and tie in a formal setting? I don't think that's appropriate for me. I don't. I think people would say, 'That doesn't seem right.' But I won't know unless I try. ... I'm willing to listen" (ORLANDOSENTINEL.com, 3/1).

BY GEORGE, I THINK HE'S GOT IT: Former NFLer Eddie George has signed on to host the Big Ten Net's "The Big Ten Quad," a talk show "designed to go unconventionally deep with past, present and future conference newsmakers." The show is set to debut March 13 around the Big Ten men's basketball tournament. In Chicago, Dan McGrath noted George "might lack the interviewing chops" of someone like NBC's Bob Costas. However, he has "stature and name recognition," as well as an "inquisitive, engaging manner that had panelists Gene Keady, Pat Fitzgerald and Ron Dayne at ease and talking candidly during a recent taping of the debut show" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/1).

LONG JUMP: In Oklahoma City, Mel Bracht wrote Thunder TV analyst Grant Long "has made excellent strides since the start of the season." Thunder Senior VP & Exec Producer Ken Adelson said of Long, "He has great court vision. He sees the game from the perspective as a player, as a coach and a fan." Long credited play-by-play announcer Brian Davis "in helping him explain things on the court when he might get off on a tangent" (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 2/27).

CONFLICT OF INTEREST? In Buffalo, Alan Pergament wrote it is "surprising" to hear WGR-AM host Jeremy White "as the voice of Buffalo Sabres advertisements for ticket sales." While WGR is the club's radio home, Pergament noted he "would think the ads would feature one of the team's own employees." Pergament: "It is hard to take the objectivity of any broadcaster seriously when he moonlights as a ticket salesman for the team" (BUFFALO NEWS, 2/28).

NOTES: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick writes Devils radio announcers Mike Emrick and Chico Resch are a "strong, fun listen under any circumstance, even late in a blowout" (N.Y. POST, 3/2)....Former Rocky Mountain News sports columnist Tracy Ringolsby will serve as pre- and postgame analyst for FSN Rocky Mountain on Rockies telecasts (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/1).
