In Boston, Chris Reidy reported New Balance will film an "'online documentary' that follows the exploits of a high school lacrosse team." The shoe and apparel company will create 10 weekly Webisodes featuring the spring lacrosse season of New York-based Canandaigua Academy, and the series will air beginning March 16 at SeasonInTheBalance.com. New Balance said that it, along with lacrosse equipment company Brine, will "donate roughly $60,000 worth of gear to the school" (BOSTON.com, 2/23).

Analysts Debate Whether Curry
Will Earn Davidson At-Large Bid
STAR POWER: ESPN's Digger Phelps said of Davidson G Stephen Curry and his team's chances of making the NCAA men's basketball tournament as an at-large team this season, "There’s 34 at-larges and they're going to pick the 34 best teams, but understand this: He is star power and I cannot see, knowing ratings for CBS and what they want to do, Stephen Curry not playing in a first-round matchup. He will be in the NCAA tournament." ESPN’s Bob Knight added, "I would just hate to think that the tournament committee would put a team into the tournament at the expense of another team simply because Team A had a great player that everybody knows about. That would be a real disservice to the NCAA tournament" ("College GameDay," ESPN, 2/21).

UPHILL BATTLE: ESPN's Rick Reilly defended the net's "Mt. Rushmore of Sports" feature by saying, "It's February! Nothing happens." Reilly said that he "once wrote a column imagining Mount Rushmores for categories such as golfers, wives, fans, caddies, writers, etc." Reilly: "So when they said, 'Hey, would you have any interest in this idea?' I was like, 'I love it.' Besides, I'm trying to learn the TV business, so I need a lot of reps." On Long Island, Neil Best wrote Reilly "still comes off better in written form than on television." Reilly: "I know I'm not Bob Costas, but I think if you can get past the big nose and nasally voice, I'm trying to bring interesting sentences, good writing, clear and maybe unusual opinions to television" (NEWSDAY, 2/20).

CAPITAL GAIN: Octagon Digital is in negotiations with the Capitals to integrate Twackle.com, its new aggregation engine for sports-related content on the social networking utility Twitter, on the club's Web site. The Twackle feed on capitals.nhl.com would be limited to hockey-related content. Octagon Digital VP Jim DeLorenzo: "Getting within official sites such as this is an important part of our distribution strategy" (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal).
