Richardson Released From Hospital
Thursday Following Recent Heart Surgery
NFL Panthers Owner JERRY RICHARDSON Thursday left Carolinas Medical Center after spending 12 days recovering from heart transplant surgery on February 1. Richardson’s wife, ROSALIND, Thursday night at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Cary, North Carolina, accepted the North Carolinian of the Year award from the N.C. Press Association on her husband’s behalf (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 2/13).

ULTIMATE ENTOURAGE: The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Hannah Karp profiles JULIAN JONES, who has "carved out an unusual -- some might say enviable -- niche for himself" as the "most sought-after athlete wingman." Jones "specializes in setting up elaborately arranged outings for athletes where every detail from transportation and tickets to the members of the entourage is premeditated." Jones said that the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities this weekend in Phoenix, which have "emerged as one of the biggest blowouts for athletes and their hangers-on," is one of his "busiest times of the year." Lakers G KOBE BRYANT and Suns F AMARE STOUDEMIRE have "joined his entourage in Las Vegas," and Jones "rang in the New Year with" U.S. Gold Medal-winning swimmer MICHAEL PHELPS." Jones also escorted Yankees P CC SABATHIA and his son to a fight this month, and in January accompanied Cowboys WR TERRELL OWENS to a party (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 2/13).

SECOND CHANCE CITY: Chicago 2016 Communications Dir PATRICK SANDUSKY Wednesday said that Phelps is "still a member of the Chicago 2016 committee," despite the recent photo of him presumably smoking marijuana. Sandusky said Phelps "made a regrettable decision." But he added that Chicago 2016 "still wants his help in securing the Games for Chicago." Sandusky said that Chicago 2016 "hasn't decided yet how Phelps will be used to boost Chicago's efforts to woo" the IOC (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 2/12).

AWARD TIME: Boxer MUHAMMAD ALI Thursday night received the NAACP President’s Award as part of the organization’s annual Image Awards (“The 40th NAACP Image Awards,” Fox, 2/12)....Former NFLer MARLIN BRISCOE, the first African American to start at QB in the league, was honored Monday by the U.S. House of Representatives and given an official congressional record (“NFL Total Access,” NFL Network, 2/12)....Rays manager JOE MADDON will receive an honorary degree from Lafayette College during one of the team's June road trips to N.Y. (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 2/12).

Jones To Star In New Travel
Channel Series Premiering In March

NAMES: Bengals LB DHANI JONES will be featured in Travel Channel's new original series, "Dhani Tackles The Globe," which premieres March 16 at 9:00pm ET. Jones in each episode will attempt new sports, including rugby in England, Muay Thai fighting in Thailand, hurling in Ireland and dragon boat racing in Singapore. Jones will get locals' opinions on the best places for travelers to eat, drink, shop and stay (Travel Channel)....Trail Blazers C GREG ODEN will be at the NBA Store inside the NBA All-Star Jam Session Friday to unveil the new Spalding iHoop Backboard System (NBA)....Shrine nightclub at MGM Grand at Foxwoods Owner ED KANE this weekend will celebrate his birthday with Red Sox Owner JOHN HENRY, Chair TOM WERNER and President & CEO LARRY LUCCHINO, among others (BOSTON HERALD, 2/13)....The PGA Tour Wednesday announced it donated $124M to charity in '08, an increase of about $1M from '07. The total "included $3[M] donated through proceeds from The Players Championship" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 2/12).
