Alloy Media Buying High School Sports Web Site Takkle.com

Alloy Media Acquires Takkle.com
In Six-Figure Deal
Alloy Media & Marketing, a N.Y.-based outfit that targets youths through a variety of content and marketing initiatives, has purchased high school sports site Takkle.com in a deal pegged by industry sources in the mid-six figures. In the deal, Alloy has acquired 100% of the equity of the roughly two-year-old operation, buying out investors that included SI and former Nets Owner Ray Chambers. Alloy will now add Takkle to its Teen.com Network, a collection of web properties with a collective reach of more than 20 million unique users. “This is a site we’ve been familiar with and seen grow through its development, and we think we are the perfect fit for Takkle to now take it to the next level. We’ve got a big presence in youth recruitment in general, but until now, not a platform for athletic recruiting,” said Alloy CEO Matt Diamond. The deal includes earn-out provisions for Takkle, which had not yet turned profitable prior to Alloy’s purchase. Takkle’s staff of roughly 10 will be retained either with the company or elsewhere in Alloy. Diamond said Takkle’s content partnership with SI, which has included Takkle assisting in the creation of the magazine’s weekly Faces In The Crowd feature, will remain “business as usual.” A SI spokesperson said the company’s future with Alloy is “to be determined.” Takkle CEO David Birnbaum: “There is a lot of value we believe we can create together with Alloy. Being able to leverage the ad relationships Alloy has developed, particularly in this market, is something that will be very beneficial. ... Alloy is a company that knows how to acquire and then continue to build brands.”
