Bank Of America, Yankees Continue To
Negotiate Sponsorship Deal
In Charlotte, Rick Rothacker reports Bank of America (BofA) continues to negotiate a sponsorship with the Yankees amid "increased scrutiny of spending by banks that have received government assistance." The bank in September reportedly was close to a $20M per year deal to "become the largest sponsor in the new Yankee Stadium," but a source said that the bank was "looking to spend significantly less." BofA Senior VP/National Media Relations Joe Goode said that "discussions are ongoing with the Yankees but that the bank has nothing further to announce." Goode said that as the "bank understands it 'there are no restrictions'" in the federal bailout plan for sponsorships (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 1/28).

SNAKE BIT: Golfer Chez Reavie has agreed "once again to sport" the D'Backs logo during this week's PGA Tour FBR Open. Reavie "will wear the Diamondbacks' 'A' logo on his shirts, while the team's 'D' snake logo will be featured on his golf bag" during the tournament (AZCENTRAL.com, 1/27). Reavie wore the logo during several tournaments last year, including his victory at the PGA Tour Canadian Open (THE DAILY).

ON THE GO: Wireless network management software provider Airwave has signed a Tier-Three sponsorship deal with LOCOG in which the company will be the official private mobile radio services supplier of the '12 Games. It marks the first time in Olympic history that this has become a sponsorship category (LOCOG).

ROUNDUP: Univ. of Tennessee (UT) men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl is covering the cost of 3,000 T-shirts UT has produced that feature the word "Outlive" and are "part of a fundraising campaign for cancer prevention programs" at the UT Medical Center. The shirts retail for $15 (AP, 1/27)....Upper Deck is selling for $6,000 an autographed wall-sized montage featuring former boxer Muhammed Ali, former NBAer Michael Jordan and golfer Tiger Woods, the first time all three men have been featured in a single piece of memorabilia. The series is limited to 500 pieces (Upper Deck).
