Falcons Say Club Seats, Suites Selling Slower Than Usual

Falcons, Georgia Dome Officials Blame Poor
Economy For Club Seats, Suites Not Selling
The Falcons are "taking longer to sell the hundreds of vacant suites and club seats" at the Georgia Dome for the '09 season than in recent years, according to Leon Stafford of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Georgia Dome and Falcons officials "blamed the economy." Falcons President Rich McKay: "We probably have more unsold inventory than we've had in the last five years." Falcons officials said that the seats are selling, but "much slower than usual." Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) Exec Dir Dan Graveline, whose organization oversees the stadium, said that revenue at the Dome is off about $2M for the FY beginning July 1, 2008, "mostly because of slow sales of suites and seats." Falcons VP/Sales Dave Cohen said that there are "dozens of suites available." Of the 5,400 club seats at the Dome, "1,000 are still for sale," and Cohen "expects to sell at least 950 of them." Cohen said that while the economy has "made it tougher to move inventory, about 70[%] of the Dome's preferred seating -- suites and club seats -- has been sold." Cohen said that the team projects '09 revenue from suites and seats "at around $20.7[M], $1.2[M] less than they expected" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 1/28).

SUITE DEALS: McKay said that the Falcons for next season "will keep prices flat on many of their most expensive seats, while some will get a little cheaper." The ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE's J. Scott Trubey noted the "vast majority of luxury suites and club seats will remain at 2008 prices under a plan approved by" the GWCCA board, but "13 available suites will see $5,000 to $10,000 price cuts." The price cuts "affect suites priced between $80,000 to $100,000" for the '08 season. Three luxury suites "will see an increase in price" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 1/27).
