Amputated Due To Diabetes |
Jazz Owner LARRY MILLER Friday morning had "both lower legs amputated, starting six inches below his knees," according to Steve Luhm of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. Miller is recovering in a local hospital, but the family "will provide no further details and have no further comment" on his condition. The amputations are the "latest in a series of diabetes-related health issues that ... Miller has endured since June." The first sign of the latest health problem was when he "failed [to] attend the Jazz-Minnesota game" Tuesday night. Miller also did not attend a press conference in which Utah Gov. JON HUNTSMAN named him the "chairman of a new commission that will attempt to increase voter turnout in Utah and improve ethics in government" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 1/24). In Utah, Tim Buckley noted Miller in the past few months has had a "heart attack, kidney failure, excessive water-weight gain, gastrointestinal bleeding, a bone infection, foot ulcers" and a nearly two-month hospital stay due to complications from his type-2 diabetes (DESERET NEWS, 1/24). Jazz coach JERRY SLOAN said, "It's just really, really sad when you think about it. You just hope and pray that everything works out, and he can get healthy again." Buckley reported Miller's wife, GAIL, attended Saturday's home game against the Cavaliers and "sat next to her husband's usual courtside seat" (DESERET NEWS, 1/25).
