Whopper Of A Deal: Burger King Signs With Stewart-Haas Racing

Stewart's No. 14 Chevy Gets Primary
Sponsorship From BK For Two Cup Races
Burger King has signed a multi-year deal to sponsor Stewart-Haas Racing beginning with the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Per the deal, the QSR will serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 14 Chevy driven by Tony Stewart at the July 4 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona Int’l Speedway and the September 27 Dover 400 at Dover Int’l Speedway. Additionally, Burger King will become the exclusive QSR of Eldora Speedway, the dirt track Stewart owns in Ohio (Burger King). The deal is valued at $2.8M (Lee Spencer, FOXSPORTS.com, 1/21).

STARTING FROM SCRATCH: USA TODAY's Seth Livingstone reports Stewart's primary role this offseason "has been to assemble the right components to make Stewart-Haas a contender," and he has "enjoyed bringing it all together." Stewart: "I learned from Joe (Gibbs) that you hire the right people to do the right jobs and you don't sit there and look over their shoulders and micro-manage." Livingstone notes the "timing has been right for Stewart to fill out his teams and support staff," as layoffs from other NASCAR teams have "created no shortage of job applicants." Stewart said, "We're probably one of the very few teams that's actually added people to their organization through this offseason." Ryan Newman, who will drive the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Sprint Cup entry, "likes what he sees from the team and Stewart the car owner." Newman said of Stewart, "He's impressed me. ... He's very detailed. He has a good ability of reading people and situations and having the right people around him solving the situations" (USA TODAY, 1/22).
