Siegel To Lead NASCAR Diversity Program,
Will Serve As EGR Consultant |
DEI President of Global Operations Max Siegel yesterday announced that he will step down from his position at the newly-merged Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing to "run NASCAR's diversity program," according to David Newton of ESPN.com. Siegel "will continue to consult Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing on strategic initiatives on the business and marketing side through" his new company, The 909 Group. The sports and entertainment marketing company is "taking over management" of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity (ESPN.com, 1/14). NASCAR SCENE's Bob Pockrass reported Siegel also will re-join Indianapolis-law firm Baker & Daniels, of which he was a member from '92-94. Siegel: "I know I want to have a future in NASCAR. This is an exciting opportunity to stretch across teams, talent, the sanctioning body and the commercial partners" (SCENEDAILY.com, 1/14).
NASCAR'S GAIN: In Charlotte, David Poole writes NASCAR "hit a ringing double" yesterday. In hiring Siegel, NASCAR "took a big step toward bringing a level of credibility to its diversity initiative." Access Marketing, which managed the diversity program in its first five years, did "about as much as they could have given the level of financial commitment the program has received." Poole: "Siegel quickly built a lot of respect in this sport, and it's good for NASCAR that he's staying in racing. No industry needs to lose people with Siegel's talent and character, and NASCAR certainly would have missed having a black man like Siegel working with it on one of the most important issues this sport faces" (THATSRACIN.com, 1/15).
