Subscription Site To Offer More Than 700
Live Matches, Covering 41 Total Events |
The ATP World Tour and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour have launched TennisTV.com, the new official live streaming Web site of the two tours. The site will cover a total of 41 events and offer more than 700 live matches. A variety of packages allows fans to subscribe to only men's or women's events or a combination of both. Subscribers also will have access to interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. Free highlights will be available on the site. WTA President Stacey Allaster: "For the first time we will be able to deliver live broadcast quality matches from both tours' top level tournaments to online audiences around the world, significantly expanding the reach of our sport and satisfying consumers' demand" (ATP/WTA Tour). The AP's Chris Lehourites reported the WTA is "excluding users in all European countries and some others, while the ATP is not offering the live service in Brazil." Also, the men's and women's finals of the '09 Sony Ericsson Open will be blacked out in the U.S. Subscribers will pay $129.95 for a "full access pass to the season," while a men's pass will cost $84.95 and a women's pass costs $69.95. Viewers also can "purchase day or tournament-specific passes for lower prices." Coverage will start with this week's ATP/WTA Medibank Int'l tournament in Sydney, though the tournament "won't be shown in Australia." Additional countries excluded from viewing WTA matches on the site include Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia (AP, 1/13).
