NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings Resigns After Eight-Plus Years

Jim Jennings Steps Down
As NLL Commissioner
NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings resigned Saturday after more than eight years in the position. Jennings will be replaced by Deputy Commissioner & COO George Daniel. The league has set no timetable on finding a permanent replacement (NLL). Jennings in an e-mail said that he is a "single father determined to spend more time with his teenage children." In Denver, Theresa Smith reported Jennings leaves a "legacy of improved sponsorship, television and Internet exposure and expansion to new markets." During Jennings' tenure, franchise values "increased from $250,000 to $5.6[M]" (DENVER POST, 1/11). NLLINSIDER.com's Paul Tutka reported Jennings' decision "has been weeks in the making and likely would have been dictated by the NLL's [BOG] as well." There had been rumors of Jennings' "impending resignation ... in various circles" since the Chicago Shamrox folded last month. Jennings joined the league in September '00, succeeding Jim Livsey (NLLINSIDER.com, 1/10). In Buffalo, Budd Bailey wrote even though the move "was said to have been in the works for a while," it still is likely to be a "bit of a hit to the league's image." Bailey: "The second week of the season is a rather odd time for a Commissioner to leave his job, even if its effect on day-to-day operations will be limited" (BUFFALONEWS.com, 1/11).
