AFC, NFC Champion Hotels Selected For '11 Arlington Super Bowl

NFL Selects Omni Fort Worth Hotel To Host
AFC Team For Super Bowl XLV In 2011
The new Omni Fort Worth Hotel "will host the AFC champions" for Super Bowl XLV, which will be played at the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington in '11, while the NFC team "will stay at the Omni Mandalay Hotel" in Las Colinas, Texas, according to Jeff Mosier of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Fort Worth Omni GM Ed Netzhammer said that he was "informed of the league's decision last month when NFL officials toured various North Texas sites." Meanwhile, North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee President & CEO Bill Lively said that the NFL "has not made a decision yet on the practice facilities." Mosier notes the NFL also "has not announced which hotel will be used as the NFL headquarters" for Super Bowl XLV (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/7). Ft. Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau President David Dubois said that the NFL is "also considering holding a charity event at Billy Bob's and the city is hoping to have one of the television networks, such as Fox or ESPN, set up in Sundance Square" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 1/7).

CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM: In a special to the WALL-STREET JOURNAL, Maura Webber Sadovi reports Tampa's hotel sector is "hoping for a boost" from Super Bowl XLIII, but the "economic hard times have raised questions about whether projections on fan spending will be met." But the economy "doesn't mean football fanatics will necessarily nab bargain-basement hotel prices during the Super Bowl," as "many hotel owners still are asking premium rates for rooms in the region and require a minimum four-day stay." Sandpearl Resort GM Stuart Arp said that the 253-room beachfront resort located in Clearwater, Florida, has "several one-bedroom suites available for about $1,250 a night during the Super Bowl week, well above the average rate of about $500 fetched from February through July" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/7).
