No. 1 With A Bullet? Cris Carter Feeling Heat For T.O. Comments

Carter Apologizes After Comments About
Cowboys WR Terrell Owens
ESPN NFL analyst Cris Carter has apologized for several comments he made about Cowboys WR Terrell Owens on ESPN Radio Monday, according to Barry Horn of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Carter said in a statement, "Obviously, I did not mean this literally. It was not the right choice of words. I was simply recommending a personnel decision to improve the Cowboys." Horn noted Carter was referring to Owens when he said on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning" Monday, "I take one bullet and put it right in him. Bam!” He later reiterated the same thought on ESPN Radio's "Tirico & Van Pelt" (DALLASNEWS.com, 12/29). In San Antonio, Chris Ferrell writes under the header, “It’s Time For Cris Carter To Hang It Up At ESPN.” Ferrell: “Have fun explaining that one to your bosses at ESPN. Real classy. John Rocker and Tim Hardaway can’t believe what you said. Don Imus would like to share a few words with you about sensitivity” (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 12/30). AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Brian Powell wrote, "Using the phrase 'putting a bullet in someone' isn't really going to go over well when you're talking about the NFL. Especially in recent years" (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 12/29). PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio: "There are certain analogies and images that probably should be avoided on national platforms" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 12/30). THE BIG LEAD writes, "Cris: You sound like a buffoon. Do you want to be the second incarnation of Michael Irvin?" (THEBIGLEAD.com, 12/30).
