Rutgers Univ. has named CARL KIRSCHNER its interim AD. Kirschner has been a Spanish professor at the school since '76 and also serves as Chair of the academic oversight committee for intercollegiate athletics. Kirschner said that he "would not be a candidate to become the permanent replacement" for ROBERT MULCAHY, who is leaving the school at the end of the year. The search for Mulcahy's permanent successor will begin in January (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 12/30).
EXECS: JOHN COWART has joined the sales force at Gillett Evernham Motorsports, effective December 29, and will work from the team's Statesville, North Carolina, HQs. Cowart formerly sold for Kevin Harvick Inc. and NASCAR Images, and managed the race program at Lennox as well. He replaces JIM TUCKER, who left GEM's N.Y. office to go to IMG (Michael Smith, SportsBusiness Journal).
