Rams Sign Two-Year Radio Rights Deal With WMVN-FM

Rams Fans Will Be Able To Catch Games
On WMVN-FM Next Year
WMVN-FM, which is adopting a sports format Thursday, has reached a two-year agreement to broadcast the Rams starting next season, giving the station rights to its "first pro play-by-play property," according to Dan Caesar of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Rams games have been on KLOU-FM -- "primarily a music station -- since 2000, with many games simulcast" on KTRS-AM. Rams Exec VP & General Counsel Bob Wallace said of WMVN, "They thought it was important to get an anchor tenant, and we thought it was important to be on a sports station. The economics of it were important, too." Wallace said that WMVN made the "best offer, which is believed to be a revenue-sharing arrangement rather than a straight rights fee." Caesar reported WMVN officials will "decide if play-by-play announcer Steve Savard and analysts Jim Hanifan and D'Marco Farr" will stay. The Rams are the "second play-by-play property the station has landed -- it began airing St. Louis University men's basketball last month" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/24).

FEELING BLUE: The POST-DISPATCH's Caesar reported FSN Midwest and the Blues are "expected to announce soon" that the net will have the "entire Blues TV package next season." The deal would mean that "all games would be televised," either on FSN or nationally. But KPLR-CW "would be eliminated from the package, thus shutting out fans who don't buy cable or satellite television" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/26).
