Kobe Unveiled New Nike Zoom Kobe IV Friday Night Against Heat

Bryant's New Nike Zoom Kobe IV Shoes
Will Hit U.S. Stores This February
Lakers G Kobe Bryant unveiled his new signature shoe, the Nike Zoom Kobe IV, Friday night against the Heat, and although these are the "first low tops that Bryant has worn, a few players," including Wizards G Gilbert Arenas and Suns G Steve Nash "have recently experimented with lower cut shoes," according to Bierman & Hoffman of the N.Y. TIMES. It will be "interesting to see if Bryant's choice of footwear will further this trend." The Nike Zoom Kobe IV's "come out in stores this February" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/21). ESPN's Michael Wilbon said Bryant’s shoes "aren't really low tops.” Wilbon: “We used to call those three quarters shoes back in the old days. They aren't low top Chuck Taylors." Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan said the controversy surrounding high-top shoes vs. low-top shoes is “all a bunch of marketing nonsense and getting into kids’ heads" (“PTI,” ESPN, 12/19). Meanwhile, the SUN-SENTINEL's Michael Cunningham reported Bryant Thursday surprised the Ft. Lauderdale Dillard High School boys' basketball team "with an appearance to promote" his new shoes. Bryant "talked with the Dillard players before treating them to customized shoes" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 12/19).

ROLLING THUNDER: In Oklahoma City, Mike Baldwin reported Thunder F Kevin Durant's Foot Locker "House of Hoops" commercial began running last week. In the ad, Durant "talks how he 'lived' at the Rec Center when he was 14, stating if he left someone else was getting better." Durant's grandmother "brought him food," and he "slept behind a curtain in the gym" (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 12/20).

I AM SUPERMAN: Every fan attending Thursday's Hornets-Magic game at Amway Arena will receive a T-shirt with the Superman logo on the front and Magic C Dwight Howard's name and his No. 12 on the back. In addition, for every dunk Howard has against the Hornets, $500 will be donated to a Central Florida family through the Orlando Day Nursery on behalf of Superman and Howard (Magic).
