Jim Beam, Robby Gordon Ink
'09 Primary Sponsorship Deal
NASCAR SCENE reported Jim Beam will continue as sponsor for Robby Gordon Motorsports' No. 7 NASCAR Sprint Cup entry driven by Robby Gordon in '09. The company "will be the primary sponsor for the 13 Sprint Cup races and will serve as an associate sponsor for the remaining events." This will mark the fifth year the company has worked with the organization. Jim Beam "will conduct a variety of racing-related promotions, including the second annual Beam Bash," a concert featuring country music duo Montgomery Gentry scheduled to take place prior to the Daytona 500 race weekend in February (SCENEDAILY.com, 12/13).

SEVEN POUNDS: In Georgia, Emily Stranger reported complaints from animal-rights groups in Glynn County (GA) prompted Bealls Outlet Stores "to remove replicas of the football jersey worn by" suspended Falcons QB Michael Vick. Bealls Corporate Communications and store managers "were quick to react" to the complaints, as retail locations "immediately pulled the jerseys off the floor." Bealls Outlet Stores spokesperson Barbara Tucker in an e-mail said, "We are very sorry that some of our stores were carrying Michael Vick jerseys. As a company, we do not support Michael Vick in any way" (BRUNSWICK NEWS, 12/15).

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST: Subaru has withdrawn from the '09 World Rally Championships (WRC), "citing the global economic downturn." The news comes "just one day after Suzuki confirmed that they are to quit the WRC, and less than a fortnight after Honda sent shockwaves through motorsport by withdrawing from" F1. Prodrive Chair David Richards said Subaru's departure from WRC is a "great loss as it is one of the sport's icons" (LONDON TIMES, 12/16).

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING: adidas Remix and Philadelphia-based basketball lifestyle brand Undrcrwn have partnered on a three-shoe limited-edition footwear collection called adidas Team Signature Command + Create x Undrcrwn: The Brand for Champions Series. The collection is based on the '08-09 adidas basketball campaign, "Command and Create." The NBA Championship trophy and ring are used throughout the footwear series (adidas).

CHALK OUTLINE: NBC's "The Tonight Show" last night featured a spoof of the current "Chalk" Nike ad that features Cavaliers F LeBron James. In the spoof, a black and white video is shown of a man sitting in a locker room dumping powder into his shoes and then slapping his hands together. The narrator: “You've waited for this moment for years. You've trained. Just do it.” It then cuts to footage of an Iraqi journalist throwing his shoes at President Bush from last weekend. Leno: "One thing about these Nike people, boy, they are right on top of what's happening" (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 12/15).
