Dodgers Conducting Search To Replace
New Radio Voice Steiner In TV Booth
In L.A., Tom Hoffarth reported Dodgers announcer Charley Steiner for the '09 season will not call any games for FSN Prime Ticket or KCAL-CBS, but instead will work exclusively on all 162 regular-season radio broadcasts on KABC-AM with analyst Rick Monday. Dodgers VP/PR & Broadcasting Josh Rawitch said the move is "solely about consistency with our KABC radio team" (DAILYNEWS.com, 12/12). Also in L.A., Diane Pucin reported the Dodgers are "conducting a search for another TV broadcaster," and former Dodgers radio announcer Jerry Reuss is the "odd man out" (L.A. TIMES, 12/13). Hoffarth noted Reuss will "stay with the organization in various capacities" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 12/13).

BACK IN BLACK: In Chicago, Mark Gonzales reported former White Sox TV analyst Darrin Jackson, after "talking with various outlets," has agreed to return to the White Sox as a radio analyst. Jackson "explored possibilities with ESPN, MLB.TV and others before informing Sox officials of his decision to return." Jackson: "There were a lot of interesting things going on. But now I don't have to mess around. I'm staying in Chicago" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 12/13).

NOTES: FSN Dir of Media Relations Justin Simon said that former CBS college basketball analyst Billy Packer is "in 'very preliminary discussions' with FSN about doing college basketball shows this spring" (USA TODAY, 12/15)....Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Bob Smizik, after 39 years as a sportswriter, has accepted a buyout from the paper. Smizik: "I had been considering retirement and when the Post-Gazette offered a generous buyout, my mind, after some debate, was made up." Smizik's final column ran yesterday (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 12/14).
