NBC Offering Universal Studios Promo During NHL Broadcasts
By Tripp Mickle, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
NBC will offer one lucky fan at each NHL game it broadcasts this season the chance to win an all-expense paid trip for four to Universal Studios in Orlando. The "Get Out of the Cold" promotion will debut during NBC's broadcast of the '09 Winter Classic at Wrigley Field on January 1. The network will pre-select two sets of fans wearing their team colors at the game. It will then show each set on the air and whichever one is supporting the winning team -- the Red Wings or the Blackhawks -- will win a trip to Universal Studios. The promotion will continue during NBC's "Game of the Week" broadcasts. NBC will adapt the program to make it market specific in an effort to encourage casual interest in its weekly NHL broadcasts.
