IMG Golf Senior Corporate VP & Global Managing Dir MARK STEINBERG, who reps golfer TIGER WOODS, is "close to a deal to extend his employment contract at the company," according to sources cited by Liz Mullen of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. While the extension has yet to be officially completed and signed, "many aspects of the deal have been agreed to." The move comes after Steinberg "talked to several rival sports and entertainment agencies, including Creative Artists Agency, about starting anew and possibly leaving IMG." Steinberg has been with IMG since '92, but sources said that his contract "was set to expire soon." Steinberg could not be reached for comment; IMG declined to comment. Mullen reports if the extension is reached, IMG "would retain one of the most powerful agents in sports," as he currently reps more than 100 pro golfers, including Woods, VIJAY SINGH, PADRAIG HARRINGTON and PAULA CREAMER (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 12/15 issue).
