Adams Says There Is "No Way"
Titans Are Leaving Nashville |
Titans Owner Bud Adams for the first time publicly said that the franchise "would remain in the family after his death and he envisions his grandson, Kenneth Adams IV, someday calling the shots," according to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Under the current succession plan, Adams said the team would be split into thirds among his two daughters, Susie Smith and Amy Strunk, and the family of deceased son Kenneth Adams III. He added that his daughters "aren't interested in running the team," and grandson Barclay is still in college. Wyatt noted 24-year-old Kenneth IV has spent the last two seasons "sampling every facet of franchise operations as an administrative assistant" to Titans Senior Exec VP & General Counsel Steve Underwood. Bud Adams said that he is "thinking about elevating his grandson to vice president, perhaps in two years." Adams: "I want him to get a little more age on him because I think he'd be respected a little better. But he might be the one running it after I'm no longer the head guy." Underwood said of Kenneth IV, "I don't think there is any question that he has the ability someday to have a leadership role in our organization." Meanwhile, Bud Adams said the team is not a candidate for relocation. Adams: "There's no way we'd leave Nashville. There is great support there." He added that "provisions and penalties in their lease, which runs until 2028, make it almost impossible to move the team" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 12/13).
