Keith Wolff Says A's Are Focused On Cisco
Field Developments In Fremont, California
In San Jose, Denis Theriault reports city officials yesterday were "cool to tepidly optimistic when it came to relaunching any all-out push to woo" A's Owner Lew Wolff for the team's new ballpark. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, following reports that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig sent a letter to Wolff giving him permission to consider new locations for his ballpark, said, "I won't be calling. Lew's got my phone number." Reed added Wolff will "have to bring his checkbook. We don't have any money." But San Jose Vice Mayor Dave Cortese and San Jose Chief Development Officer Paul Krutko both said that they "plan to reach out to Wolff and his son, [A's co-Owner] Keith, in hopes of gauging the team's interest, if any." But Keith Wolff said, "We're totally focused on Fremont" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 12/11).

PAETEC PARK: USL Rochester Rhinos Owner Rob Clark said that PAETEC, which initially signed a 12-year, $23M naming-rights deal in '00 for the team's downtown stadium, after December 31 "will not have its name on the 12,500-seat" facility. PAETEC's original naming-rights deal was voided after the Rhino's former owners "lost control of the team and stadium in January," and the company singed a new one-year deal with Clark's Adirondack Sports club in April. Clark said that the Rhinos have "'several prospects' for a new sponsor but will listen to offers" (ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 12/11).

RIO TINTO: Kennecott Utah spokesperson Alexis Cairo said that parent company Rio Tinto's 10-year, $1.5M annual naming-rights agreement for MLS Real Salt Lake's new stadium "would not be affected by Rio Tinto's cutbacks and layoffs." Rio Tinto Group yesterday said that it "plans to reduce its net debt by $10[B] by the end of 2009 and cut 14,000 jobs worldwide" (DESERET NEWS, 12/11).

NOTES: AEG President & CEO Tim Leiweke indicated that AEG "might soon be building a third hotel" at the company's L.A. Live complex. JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels will be part of complex in 2010 (LATIMES.com, 12/10)....The Fargo Dome Authority "voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a new two-year contract with Global Spectrum to manage the Fargodome" in North Dakota (FARGO FORUM, 12/10).
