Audi To Advertise During Super Bowl For Second Consecutive Year
Audi of America has purchased a 60-second commercial slot during the first quarter of NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIII. The ad marks the second straight year the car maker will advertise during the Super Bowl (Audi). MEDIA WEEK's Anthony Crupi noted Audi, which will run a spot for its R8 car, "elected to jump back into the Super Bowl fray after garnering a great deal of consumer and media attention with last year's ad," which was a 60-second spot inspired by "The Godfather." Collective Intellect and Nielsen Buzz Metrics found that last year's spot was the "second-most buzzworthy" of all Super Bowl XLII ads. The ad buy is a "significant win for NBC, which has struggled to find takers for its eight remaining spots." But one ad buyer said that the number of available spots remaining during the broadcast is "probably closer to an even dozen" (MEDIAWEEK.com, 12/10). Audi CMO Scott Keogh: "We've gained two points of market share this year. We think when others are hitting the brakes, we can make gains." NBC Sports Senior Dir of Communications Brian Walker said that with the Audi ad, the net now has "seven 30-second commercial slots remaining out of an initial inventory of 67" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 12/10).
